Graphene Coatings Extend Stainless Steel Lifetime by Preventing Corrosion Damage
Graphene nanoplatelets were used to create a protective coating for stainless steel to prevent corrosion. The coating was applied using a spin coating technique, resulting in complete coverage of the steel surface. Tests showed that both graphene oxide and graphene nanoplatelets effectively inhibited corrosion by increasing corrosion potential and pitting potential, and decreasing passive current density. Even after long-term immersion, the coated substrates maintained their corrosion inhibition ability. Overall, the graphene coatings can significantly extend the lifespan of stainless steel by protecting it from corrosion.
