High protein diets in premenarche girls linked to increased calcium excretion.
The study looked at how much calcium girls aged 9-11.5 absorb from their diets. They gave different calcium amounts to 49 girls for 6 days and checked their urine and stool. The girls absorbed about 53% of the calcium, regardless of the amount they ate. Eating more protein made them pee out more calcium. So, girls in this age group absorb around 53% of the calcium they eat, and eating lots of protein can make them lose more calcium in their pee.
