Floating treatment wetlands offer hope for cost-effective urban wastewater treatment
Constructed wetlands are used to treat wastewater and stormwater, removing pollutants and nutrients effectively. In Australia, this technology is gaining popularity due to lower costs compared to traditional treatment methods. While treatment wetlands can handle various types of effluent, they are mostly used for polishing wastewater. A study compared traditional and floating treatment wetlands for urban wastewater treatment. Floating wetlands are more space-efficient but not as cost-effective or efficient as traditional wetlands for Bathurst Regional Council. Further research is needed to improve treatment efficiency and reduce installation costs.
