Inflamed Gums Trigger Protective Mechanism to Halt Immune Reactions
Inflamed gums have higher levels of certain substances called PGs and cAMP compared to healthy gums. These PGs can increase the cAMP levels in the inflamed tissue. The cAMP helps protect cells in the gums during inflammation by stabilizing their membranes. This suggests that the increase in cAMP during inflammation is a natural defense mechanism to stop immune or allergic reactions.
