Estrogen protects pregnant women from deadly lung injury after shock
The researchers studied how estrogen helps pregnant rabbits with lung injuries from severe bleeding. They divided 60 rabbits into different groups and induced bleeding in some. After injections of estrogen or other substances, they measured markers of lung damage and inflammation. The results showed that pregnant rabbits treated with estrogen had lower levels of harmful substances in their blood compared to those without estrogen. This suggests that estrogen may protect the lungs during stressful events like hemorrhagic shock in pregnant rabbits, which could help in developing treatments for similar conditions in the future.
