The scientists studied a technology called Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) that turns coal into gas for electricity generation. They compared different ways of making the gas and found that using an updraft gasifier is the most efficient method. They also discovered that coal with less water in it makes the system work better. These findings show that by choosing the right gasification method and using coal with low moisture content, we can make coal-fired power plants more efficient.
