High zinc wound treatment linked to toxic effects and altered copper levels.
Zinc is absorbed from wounds treated with zinc sulphate, but high concentrations can cause toxic effects. Zinc may inhibit granulocyte migration. Zinc levels in serum increase with higher zinc sulphate concentrations, while copper levels decrease. Zinc and copper concentrations in the liver increase, especially with higher zinc sulphate concentrations. Pancreas zinc concentrations are higher with higher zinc sulphate concentrations.
