New study reveals key to reducing pollution from agricultural activities
Diffuse pollution from non-point sources is hard to manage, especially in semi-arid regions like Lake Mogan. By using a model called SWAT and optimization techniques, researchers estimated the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution from different types of land during wet periods. They found that the pollution loads were close to the minimum values reported in the literature and varied with rainfall. This information can help plan ways to control pollution in similar regions with heavy agriculture.
