Oil production sewage treatment fails to meet irrigation safety standards
A pond system was used to treat sewage from an oil production site in a dry coastal area. The treated water met most criteria for irrigation, but had high levels of coliform bacteria. The ponds in the East Line worked better than those in the West Line. Some of the water was not flowing through the ponds properly. When the treated water was used for irrigation, there were risks associated with the bacteria in the soil.
