The study looked at how a pathway called AOX helps protect Rumex K-1 leaves from damage caused by different levels of light. Under low light, blocking the AOX pathway made the leaves more sensitive to light and increased the activity of enzymes that fight harmful molecules. This helped prevent too many harmful molecules from building up and lessened the damage to the leaves. Under high light, blocking the AOX pathway made the damage worse, even though the enzymes were more active. This shows that the AOX pathway is crucial for protecting Rumex K-1 leaves from light damage, especially in bright light.
