Cadmium in Rat Diets Leads to Anaemia and Liver Damage.
The study looked at how different amounts of cadmium in the diet affected growing rats. They fed male rats diets with 50, 100, or 200 ppm of cadmium, as well as a diet with no cadmium. The rats that ate cadmium had lower food intake and growth. The more cadmium they ate, the more was found in their blood and liver. The rats also had anemia, with low levels of red blood cells and hemoglobin. Their blood had less albumin and higher levels of certain enzymes. Overall, cadmium in the diet had negative effects on the rats' health.
