Sesame oil allergens causing widespread skin reactions uncovered in study.
Researchers studied 13 patients with allergic reactions to sesame oil to identify the allergens causing contact dermatitis. They found sesamol, sesamin, and sesamolin in both crude and purified sesame oil. Patch tests showed that most patients reacted positively to sesamol, sesamin, and sesamolin. However, it was unclear if there was a group allergy to substances related to sesamol.
