Unlocking Rice Plant's Sun Protection Secrets for Enhanced Crop Yield
Rice plants were studied to see how they protect themselves from too much sunlight. Plants grown in low light got more damaged than those in moderate or high light. The plants in moderate and high light had better ways to protect themselves from the sun, like making certain pigments. Adding a substance called ascorbate helped the plants protect themselves even more, while another substance called dithiothreitol made them more vulnerable to sun damage. This shows that certain pigments help plants deal with too much sunlight by absorbing extra energy.
