Thalassemic Patients at Higher Risk of Liver Disease from Torque Teno Virus
A new virus called Torque Teno Virus (TTV) was found in thalassemic patients in Jahrom, Iran. The virus was detected in 35.4% of patients. Those with TTV had higher levels of liver enzymes (ALT and AST) compared to those without the virus. The study suggests that TTV may play a role in liver disease among thalassemic patients.
