Forest gaps boost soil carbon storage, 1225 m2 optimal for impact.
The study looked at how different sizes of clearings in a Pinus massoniana forest affect the distribution of soil aggregates and organic carbon. They found that larger soil particles had more organic carbon, and the 1225 m2 clearing had the highest organic carbon content and storage. This suggests that a 1225 m2 clearing might be the best size for logging to increase soil carbon accumulation.
