Soybean Lecithin Outperforms Egg Yolk in Preserving Goat Semen, Boosting Livestock Breeding Potential
The researchers wanted to find a replacement for hen egg yolk in preserving goat semen. They tested two types of soybean lecithin at different concentrations in a special solution. They collected semen from goats, removed the liquid part, and divided the sperm into different groups with the solutions. After keeping the samples at a low temperature for 4 hours, they found that the soybean lecithin with 20% phosphatidylcholine at 1%-3% concentration worked as well as egg yolk in preserving the semen. The sperm in this solution had better motility, viability, and membrane integrity compared to the other solutions tested.
