New framework boosts product robustness for safer and more reliable designs!
The article presents a framework for designing robust mechanical products by using axiomatic design and fuzzy clustering. The goal is to ensure products perform well under different conditions. The researchers model the product's function and structure, map customer needs to design parameters, and analyze the relationship between them. By clustering design parameters and grouping system components, they identify interfaces and develop a system robustness matrix. Controllable factors are then analyzed to improve design objectives and create a robust system. The framework is demonstrated with a trolley design for an overhead travelling crane.
