Cryopreservation breakthrough could save endangered plant species worldwide
A new method for preserving Fraser photinia plants was developed using a freezing technique called vitrification. The researchers tested different solutions and methods to find the best way to regrow the plants after freezing. They found that using a droplet vitrification technique with specific conditions led to the highest success rate of shoot regrowth. This study shows that the type of solution, the way the plants are prepared before freezing, and the growth medium after freezing all play a crucial role in successfully preserving Fraser photinia plants.
