Barley genotypes with high nitrogen utilization efficiency produce more grain yield and nitrogen harvest index compared to those with low nitrogen utilization efficiency. The dry matter mass and nitrogen accumulation in high-efficiency genotypes are significantly higher, especially before the jointing stage. This leads to improved yield and nitrogen utilization efficiency by enhancing nitrogen uptake and dry matter formation early in the growth stages of barley.
