Revolutionizing crop growth: Maize intercropping boosts nutrient content and yields.
A study in India looked at how different ways of adding nitrogen to the soil affect the growth and nutrient content of winter maize intercropped with potato, mustard, and linseed. They found that using a mix of inorganic and organic nitrogen helped the plants grow better. Maize + potato intercropping had the most dry matter accumulation, while maize + mustard had the least. The 75 + 25% RDN treatment showed the best growth rates, but the 50 + 50% RDN treatment had the lowest growth rates. Overall, the study showed that the right mix of nitrogen can improve the growth of winter maize in intercropping systems.
