This article explores how Japanese students learning English associate words in their minds. By using word association tests, the researchers found that students link words based on sound and meaning. They also discovered that the way words are connected in the mind can be influenced by the context in which they are learned. This study suggests that understanding how words are related in the mental lexicon can help teachers develop better ways to teach vocabulary to second language learners.
