Bufferzones along hedgerows boost plant biodiversity in pesticide-free fields.
The researchers studied how bufferzones without pesticides along hedgerows in Danish barley fields affect plant diversity. They tested different bufferzone widths and distances from the hedgerow. They found that wider bufferzones of 24 meters had the most plant species and diversity. Bufferzones of at least 6 meters were needed to increase species richness significantly. The study showed that bufferzones can improve biodiversity in fields by providing a pesticide-free habitat for plants.
