New technique accurately measures equine urine enzyme, impacting horse health.
Researchers developed a method to measure gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) in horse urine. They found that the enzyme activity was consistent and could be accurately measured within a certain range. GGT behaved similarly in both serum and urine samples. Enzyme activity decreased after storage, especially at -20°C. The ratio of GGT to creatinine in urine remained constant despite variations in individual levels. In healthy adult horses, the average GGT to creatinine ratio was 10.52 +/- 4.78.
