African agriculture productivity was studied from 1980 to 2007. The main focus was on measuring total factor productivity (TFP) using data from the Food and Agriculture Organization. The researchers found that technological progress was the main driver of TFP growth, with a 0.85% increase in TFP and 1% increase in technical change. However, there were decreases in efficiency levels, such as technical productivity efficiency and mix efficiency. To improve productivity growth, measures like promoting irrigation, improving governance, mechanization, and reducing land fragmentation are recommended.
