Prolactin Fails to Enhance Human Fertility, Dashing Hopes for New Treatments
The study looked at how a hormone called prolactin affects the readiness and reactions of human sperm cells. Tests were done by adding different substances to sperm to see how they reacted. Results showed that prolactin doesn't have a big impact on whether sperm are ready for fertilization or if their outer layer reacts in a certain way. About 31.5% of sperm cells reacted when exposed to certain fluids and hormones, but prolactin by itself didn't change this reaction much. In conclusion, the research suggests that prolactin doesn't have a major role in getting human sperm cells ready for fertilization or in how they react during fertilization attempts.
