Study reveals how vegetation impacts CO2 release from soil
Soil respiration was measured in different vegetation types over a few years. The amount of CO2 released from the soil varied by season, with more in summer and autumn. Soil temperature had a big impact on respiration rates, with higher temperatures leading to more CO2 release. Soil water content didn't affect respiration much, except when it was warmer than 10 degrees Celsius. Overall, the study found that soil respiration is influenced by both temperature and water content, with different vegetation types showing similar levels of CO2 release.
