Iron ore tailing dams in India redesigned for eco-friendly waste management.
Iron ore tailings need to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. The study looked at the soil properties for building a safe tailing dam, including its foundation and construction materials. Geophysical surveys were done to find the bedrock under the spillway. A computer program based on the Swedish Slip Circle Method was used to analyze the dam's stability. The research found that the settling characteristics of the tailings require a smaller pond size than currently used in India. To improve containment, an extra sedimentation tank is recommended before the tailings are put into the pond.
