Plant discovery: Dodder vines defy gravity with light manipulation!
Smallseed dodder plants were exposed to red light and red plus far-red light to study how they respond to gravity. When exposed to red light, the plants grew upwards against gravity, but when exposed to red plus far-red light, they grew downwards with gravity. This change in growth direction was reversible when the light conditions were switched. This suggests that smallseed dodder plants can change the direction of their growth in response to different types of light, specifically red and far-red light.
