Heavy metals in Yangtze Estuary sediments pose high ecological risks.
The researchers studied heavy metals in the Yangtze Estuary sediments. They found that most heavy metals were in a form that doesn't easily move, except for cadmium. Copper posed the highest risk to aquatic life. Pollution from the Yangtze River affected the upstream area more in the wet season, while sewage from cities like Shanghai affected the downstream area more in normal and dry seasons.
