The scientists studied the plants and pollen on a mountain in China to understand how they change with altitude. They found six main zones of plants, from alpine cushion vegetation to desert plants. Some pollen from lower areas is carried up by the wind. Strong winds from the northwest play a big role in moving pollen around the area.
