Optimal extraction process boosts health benefits of chamomile flowers.
Researchers used a method called response surface methodology to figure out the best way to extract beneficial compounds from chamomile flowers. They tested different temperatures, ethanol levels, and extraction times to see how they affected the amount of healthy substances like phenols and flavonoids in the extracts. By running experiments and analyzing the results, they found that the highest yields of these compounds were obtained at specific conditions: 80°C temperature, 62% ethanol concentration, and 50.4 minutes extraction time for total phenols and flavonoids, and slightly different conditions for apigenin. When they tested these optimal conditions, the results matched what they had predicted, showing that their method worked well for getting the most out of chamomile flowers.
