Mungbean Cultivation Boosts Soil Fertility and Farmer Incomes in Karnataka
The researchers wanted to see how growing mung beans after rice in Raichur, Karnataka could boost soil quality and income. They tested three mung bean varieties over two years. The SML 668 type gave the best grain yield, with about 16% more compared to the others. PDM 139 and BGS 9 varieties didn't show much difference in yield. Overall, paddy yield also went up by 3.5% in the second year. This study suggests that planting mung beans after rice can help improve soil fertility and increase income for farmers in the region.
