The amount of farmland in the Czech Republic is decreasing rapidly, especially arable land. The actual loss of farmland may be even greater than reported due to discrepancies in data. Some municipalities are not following laws to protect valuable soils from being used for construction. This is causing financial losses in crop production. Ineffective land protection is a serious problem across Europe.
