Softwood Biomass Transformed into Renewable Fuel with Explosive Pretreatment
Steam explosion can make wood easier to break down for biofuel production. By rapidly releasing pressure, the explosion helps enzymes digest the wood better. The stronger the explosion and the higher the pressure difference, the more effective the process. This study found that explosion can improve wood digestibility by up to 90%. It breaks down the wood into smaller pieces, making it easier for enzymes to work. This is the first study to show that explosion can make tough wood like softwood easier to digest.
