Formalizing small firms boosts performance, study finds.
Small firms in Mauritius were studied to see if being formal or informal affects their performance. It's hard to tell if a firm is formal or informal in less developed countries. The study used data from 3341 small firms in Mauritius to see how formality relates to performance. The results show that, in general, being formal helps small firms perform better. However, the impact of formality on performance can vary depending on the specific measure used.
