Vulnerable women in Eastern Gangetic Plains face dire climate threats
The article discusses the challenges faced by West Africa in increasing food production through irrigation. Despite having untapped land and water resources, the region has not fully utilized irrigation for agriculture. Past investments in large public irrigation schemes have not yielded expected results. A workshop was held to assess the current state of irrigation in West Africa and plan for future development. Representatives from various countries and organizations shared insights on the extent, management, policies, and constraints of irrigated agriculture in the region. West Africa has abundant land and water resources, with the highest water availability in coastal countries. The region still has room for expanding irrigation to improve food production.
