New Light Exposure Method Boosts Fern Spore Germination Rates Dramatically
Spores of the fern Mohria caffrorum can be induced to germinate by red or far-red light, but blue light can cancel out this effect. However, prolonged exposure to blue light can also promote germination. The involvement of phytochrome in this process is uncertain. Blue light seems to have both promotive and inhibitory effects on spore germination, which work independently.
