The Zhou dynasty began after overthrowing the Shang dynasty in ancient China. They expanded their territory through military expeditions, eventually ruling half of present-day China for about 900 years. Their influence on Chinese history was so significant that it's hard to distinguish between Zhou characteristics and Chinese culture.
