New herbicide combinations boost wheat yields by controlling resistant weed.
The researchers tested different herbicide combinations to control herbicide-resistant Phalaris minor in wheat fields in north-western India. They found that using pinoxaden herbicide provided effective control of Phalaris minor, but not of broadleaf weeds. Combining metribuzin with clodinafop or sulfosulfuron herbicides, or using sequential applications of pendimethalin or trifluralin followed by clodinafop or sulfosulfuron, resulted in 90-100% control of Phalaris minor and broadleaf weeds, leading to improved wheat yields. Mesosulfuron + iodosulfuron and fenoxaprop + metribuzin also showed promise but need further testing for consistent effectiveness.
