Velvetleaf plants were crossed to study how they inherit tolerance to a herbicide called atrazine. The offspring showed intermediate tolerance, more like the tolerant parent. This tolerance was not passed down through the plant's cytoplasm. The next generation had a ratio of one tolerant, two intermediate, and one susceptible plant, suggesting a single gene controls atrazine tolerance.
