Accurate Flood Prediction Saves Lives as Dams Adapt to Rainfall Changes
A new method was developed to predict the inflow rate into a dam several hours in advance using rainfall data. By analyzing past data from Midorikawa dam, researchers created models to show how rainfall affects the inflow rate. By continuously updating these models, they were able to accurately predict the inflow rate. This method is simple, adapts to changes in the inflow rate and rainfall, and is expected to be widely used for predicting dam inflow rates.
