Intercropping sesame with blackgram boosts productivity and water efficiency in rainfed areas.
Intercropping sesame with green gram and black gram can increase productivity and rain water use efficiency. In a field experiment, different combinations of crops were tested, and the best results were seen with sesame + black gram (1:1 ratio). This combination had the highest sesame equivalent yield, land equivalent ratio, rain water use efficiency, net return, and benefit-cost ratio. This means that planting sesame with black gram in equal amounts can lead to better overall outcomes compared to planting them alone or with other ratios.
