New study reveals ancient delta secrets in China's oil-rich basin!
The researchers studied sedimentary characteristics of a shallow water delta in China's Ordos Basin. They analyzed core samples, well data, and outcrops to identify different sediment types like distributary channels and sheet sandstone. They found that the delta is mainly controlled by a river system, with distinct sandbody architectures like distributary channels and lobate sandstone. The delta is made up of straight channels in the plain, net-like channels in the front, sheet sandstone in the distal front, and mudstones in the deeper areas.
