Forest protection measures in India lead to isolated islands amidst deforestation.
The study looked at how different ways of managing forests in central India affect deforestation. By using satellite images from 1977 to 2011, researchers found that the area lost a lot of dense forest, especially between 1977 and 1990. More protected forest areas were created, but people still used forests outside these areas. This led to conflicts between locals and forest managers. The study suggests that a new approach involving local communities is needed to protect forests better.
