New bioreactor technology transforms palm oil waste into clean energy.
The researchers evaluated a new bioreactor for treating palm oil mill effluent. They found that the bioreactor was highly efficient, removing over 99% of pollutants at certain organic loading rates. The biogas produced contained a high percentage of methane. The effluent quality met discharge limits, remaining stable and within acceptable levels. Different models were used to predict the performance of the anaerobic and aerobic compartments of the bioreactor.
