Revolutionizing Microscopy: Affordable 3-D Stage Opens New Research Horizons
A low-cost, open-source 3-D microscope stage was created using a 3-D printer and a USB microscope holder. It has high precision with an average error of 10 μm at maximum speed and 27 μm at minimum speed. Accuracy tests showed an error of 0.15%. This stage is larger than commercial options, allowing for high-depth images over large areas and complex shapes. While not as repeatable as 2-D stages, it is suitable for most scientific uses. The open-source stage costs only 3-9% of commercial alternatives, making 3-D microscopy more accessible worldwide.
