North Atlantic Oscillation boosts Spanish tuna catches, impacting commercial fishing industry.
The North Atlantic Oscillation affects Spanish catches of albacore and yellowfin tuna in the North–east Atlantic Ocean. The study analyzed the impact of this climate oscillation on these two tuna species. Data from the Spanish fishing fleet in the North Atlantic showed a positive relationship between the NAO index and the catch per unit effort for both albacore and yellowfin tuna, indicating a potential effect on their catchability.
