Deforestation for agriculture leads to soil degradation and reduced crop productivity.
Improper land use practices in Miesa Watershed are affecting soil quality and crop productivity. The study compared soil from cultivated land, grazing land, and natural forest. Soil from natural forest had higher quality, with more organic matter and nutrients. Maize plants grown in forest soil were taller and healthier. Changing forest to other land uses worsens soil quality and reduces crop productivity.
