Alaska North Slope Rivers Show Unique Responses to Environmental Inputs
This study looked at how much sediment is carried by three rivers in Alaska over a few years. They measured the size of sediment particles in the rivers and how much sediment was carried in the water. They found that each river responds differently to rain and other factors. Most of the sediment transport happened during spring melt and heavy rain events in 2011 and 2013. The Chandler River had smaller sediment particles compared to the Anaktuvuk and Itkillik Rivers. Overall, the study shows that these rivers react differently to rain and other environmental factors.
