The researchers conducted a field experiment to improve the productivity of pigeonpea intercropping systems in Tripura's red soils. They tested different combinations of pigeonpea with other crops like black gram and green gram. The pigeonpea + black gram combination showed the highest net return and yield compared to other combinations, making it a profitable choice for farmers in the region. This study suggests that growing pigeonpea with black gram as an intercropping system can be more beneficial than growing pigeonpea alone in the area.
